Including outdoor adventure, indoor discovery time, math, literature, music and art. Class meets once a week for two hours. All children must be potty trained. Space is limited and preregistration is required. A parent and child may share one kit. Milford 513-831-1711 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Suggested Donation of $15 Join fellow nature lovers to learn how you can take action on environmental issues important to you. Your voice and opinion have tremendous influence on public policy. The Ohio Environmental Council will be conducting this workshop, during which you will learn effective ways to be heard by local and state officials. Preregistration is required.

Topics include maple syrup making, the arrival of spring, frogs and ponds, and much more.

February 13, 2010 Backyard Maple Sugaring: A Hands-On, How-To Workshop Location: Cincinnati Nature Center at Rowe Woods, 4949 Tealtown Rd, Milford 513-831-1711 x413 2:00 PM- 4:00 PM Members $5, Non Members $8 Do you want to make syrup from the maple trees in your yard? This workshop is for people who wish to make syrup on a small scale and will be filled with “sweet” advice concerning the selection of trees, tapping, sap collection, sap storage and boiling, as well as finishing and canning syrup. Spiles (tree taps) will be available for purchase. Preregistration is required. Meet in Rowe Woods Visitor Center.

This program includes a guided hike in the sugarbush, a look into the Native American origins of sugaring and a visit to the Sugar House. Scouts or homeschool students will tap a tree with a hand drill; help with sugaring work, and sample warm maple syrup right off the evaporator. This program takes place outdoors, regardless of weather. Preregistration is required. Minimum to register is 10 scouts. Large groups will be separated into smaller groups of 10 or fewer. Each group of 10 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Hour-long hikes begin at the Sugar House.

Savor the first taste of spring and drop by the Sugar House near Krippendorf Lodge anytime between 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Experience the whole process of producing “liquid gold” maple syrup from sap and bask in the warmth of the evaporator and it’s maple-scented steam. Join in an interactive sap-collecting maple hike at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, or 2:00 PM. Hikes start at the Sugar House. A self-guided maple trail is also available.

February 26-27, 2010 Family Nature at Night: An Overnight Program Location: Cincinnati Nature Center, Rowe Woods, 4949 Tealtown Rd. Milford 513-831-1711 7:00 PM- 9:00 PM Members $120 per room, Non Members $160 per room. Have you ever wanted to spend the night at Cincinnati Nature Center? Curious about what happens in the forest when the sun goes down? Here’s your chance! On Friday February 26, join us for an overnight adventure at the Retreat House. Families will enjoy a night hike, craft, campfire, and much more. A light breakfast will be provided. You will sleep in dorm style rooms equipped with two bunk beds to accommodate four people. Rooms may be divided between two families with only one adult and one child. Appropriate for 6 and older. Preregistration required by February 5.

Milford 513-831-1711 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM Members $10, Non Members $15 Join Bill Reichling to learn basic tracking skills, useful for taking wildlife photos or knowing what’s in your woodpile or attic. Learn about documented data of cougar, bobcat, and black bear in Ohio and discover how to read the woods through tracking. We’ll spend time indoors and out during this two-hour workshop. Preregistration is required. Appropriate for ages 13 and older.
Late February/Early March Woodcock Watch: Aerobatics in Nature Location: Cincinnati Nature Center Rowe Woods, 4949 Tealtown Rd, Milford 513-831-1711 Ext. 413 Time: TBD Members free/Non Members pay daily admission Woodcocks are nocturnal game birds that require field habitat for their mating ritual at dusk. If you would like to join a naturalist-led Woodcock hike, email Amy Johnson at ajohnson@cincynature.org with Woodcock on the subject line. He has invited children to come and make crafts, decorate cookies, play games and have their faces painted. There is NO EGG HUNT at this event. Eggs will be distributed by the Easter Bunny & helpers. Parents are encouraged to bring your cameras to take that “special picture”.

Take a walk through the old-growth forest to learn about identifying old growth, why this parcel was saved, what makes it unique, and what threatens it. Please bring a lunch to enjoy after the hike. August 1, 2010 East Fork Triathlon and Duathlon Location: East Fork State Park Bethel, Ohio 8:00 AM-1:00 PM Adults $45.00-$55.00 The fourth stop on the HFP Racing Triathlon and Duathlon Series is at East Fork State Park. This race site has been a Cincinnati tradition for more than 25 years. Triathletes will start off with a 750 meter swim (1 lap Sprint, 2-laps Olympic) in East Fork Lake. Duathletes will start off with challenging 5K out and back run. The bike courses feature a rolling loop east of Rt 125 for both the sprint and international distance races. The final run is an out and back 5K run (1-lap Sprint, 2 –laps Olympic) that features a big hill at the start, the levels out for the remaining run.

November 18, 2010 Holiday Parade Location: Parade route begins at Meijer’s and proceeds down business 28 and ends at Miami Plaza by Kmart. 513-248-3727 Starts at 7:00 PM No Admission Fee The Holiday parade will be featuring local businesses and civic groups. Floats and vehicles decorated with lights and High School Marching bands perform along the route.

November 27, 2010 Light Up New Richmond Location: Through Out the Village of New Richmond 513-226-8000 10:00 AM- 9:00 PM No Admission Fee Lights, Camera, Action! Come join us for an evening of Victorian fun! Bring your camera and take a photo with Mark Twain, have your picture painted by Whistler or journey upon the steamship for a photo op with the Captain and his Missus as we light up New Richmond for the Holiday Season and get a jump-start on your gift giving.
December 3, 2010 Trains of Williamsburg Christmas Walk Location: throughout the Village of Williamsburg 513-724-6107 5:00PM-9:00PM No Admission Fee This is an Annual Christmas Event celebrating Williamsburg’s history as a train depot. Local businesses are open late offering refreshments and sometimes free gifts. Visit Santa and take a ride on a fire truck. Walk through the Village as strolling carolers entertain you. See numerous train displays and watch illusionists perform.

Open houses in the businesses; gift basket raffles; free kids fest; craft show; museum open house; parade at 4:00 PM; Christmas musical in the evening at the Bethel United Methodist Church. There will be kids crafts & activities at the library; Grassy Run pioneer Christmas in the park; lots of food and fun.

It is an outdoor event on Front Street with the Ohio River in full view. This Holiday festival includes carolers, horse and carriage rides while looking on the Ohio River, Shopping in quaint village shops, Restaurants for dining, smells of the season from baked goods, vendors and crafters galore. Santa will be there arriving by boat. This event is one of the largest Christmas Celebrations in the Tri State area.
